Reuben Feels... 50!
Reuben Feels are excited to announce that we are making our 50th piece of immersive theatre since popping into existence just under 3 years ago.
It's been a rollicking joy watching our little guy Reuben grow over the years. An adventure that's seen us fighting the zombie hordes in Shoreditch, touring America with Grammy Award winning bands, and fighting cyber crime in Barcelona. Click 'Continue Reading' to hear our thoughts on how the little fella's grown.
Along the way we’ve made some wonderful friends. Reuben's been privileged to work with the most dedicated, talented and adventurous storytellers we could ever wish to meet. That's not just the outrageously talented cast and crews, that's our clients too, our most valued collaborators. Also our Knights of the Round Table, otherwise known as the Creative Board- there's more genius in those meetings than at a Mensa convention.
Our antics have seen us become the only Ogilvy Digital Lab partner which is not a digital company. Time Out Magazine very kindly named us in the Top 100 Creatives in the UK. We've been shortlisted for two Cannes Lions - in the Mobile & PR categories. We've even worked with the FBI, but that's another story...And the most exciting part of all is that we're just getting started. Here's to the next 50...Lastly, as a mini retrospective, we've asked our Directors to choose their favourite stories from our body of work. Here they are...
Adam - Shenanigans! for Tourism Ireland & Carat, Bestival 2013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr0GSLLa-w4
I'm particularly proud of this piece for two reasons. Not only was this week the first time we'd run two projects simultaneously (we were also touring America with Mumford & Sons at the time), but we were able to make something that multiple national newspapers and magazines named one of the highlights of the festival (In your face, Snoop Dogg). 5 days in the middle of a field in the pouring rain is a tall order for anyone, but our amazing 15-strong cast managed it with fantastic professionalism and smiles on their faces 'til the very end. And I got to see James Blake play live.
Isabel - Hurts Immersive Binaural App, 'Exile' Album Launch, 2013 https://vimeo.com/89599191
This one really got the creative juices flowing... It taught me about how technology challenges and enhance immersive storytelling. The binaural recording (3D sound) meant people were immersed in our story wherever they were. And true to the immersive nature of our pieces it was the listener who was the protagonist, directing the story through their choices. Using the beautifully crafted album as inspiration for the story was a treat too.
Natalie - Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Tour, USA / Canada
"Yes, and..."That was our mantra as we hit Canada and USA with The Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Tour.Tasked with casting and rehearsing a new company of actors at each stopover (one a week for a month), we were delighted by the receptiveness of both cast and audience in each town. After 2 days of bootcamp style immersive theatre training, our cast, these newly equipped facilitators of fun, mischief, and interaction, were sent out into the 60,000 strong capacity crowds to create, play and engage with people on a very human level. Here was an insight into how Reuben had the potential to effect people anywhere in the world, and get them playing.
